Your Creative Journal is For You . . .
We’ve learned to see creativity as something elitist. I’m not creative. I can’t draw. Or write meaningful things. All this and more may bubble to the surface when considering creative journalling. Worse still — who’ll see this meandering (sometimes deeply revealing) mess?
Claim Your Creative Space
Remember, your creative journal is for you. Your journal is your oyster. It has the potential to reveal pearls of wisdom. So learn to nurture and value your creative spark (remember the NASA questionnaire story?). And treat your journal with joyful reverence.

Claim a space where you can spread your creative wings — if you are able. If not, snag yourself a vanity case or an old briefcase and store your journal and its accoutrement — pens, paper, paint, etc — there.

Create Healthy Boundaries
Keep your journal somewhere secure. Away from uninvited eyes. Your journal should be a safe place. Somewhere you can reveal yourself without censor. Bare in mind who might come across it.
Share your creative musings. Keep them to yourself. The choice is yours. Just choose your journal-sharing circle wisely. This is no place for caustic art criticism. From without. Or from within.
Sacred Space
Think of your creative journal as a kind of sacred space. A sanctuary of sorts. Create boundaries. Devise rituals. Light a candle. Meditate. Set your intention. Play some music. A podcast. Whatever makes your journalling a magic place. This is your space.
